The journey

Flying to Bhutan from India

India is Bhutan's closest and busiest market, and the easiest place to travel from. Drukair and Bhutan Airlines fly to Paro from Delhi, Kolkata, Bagdogra, Guwahati and Mumbai, and the Kolkata and Bagdogra routes are short.

You can also enter by road at Phuentsholing, Gelephu or Samdrup Jongkhar, which suits guests coming from West Bengal, Assam or Sikkim.

Routes that work

  • Delhi

Direct Drukair and Bhutan Airlines flights to Paro.

  • Kolkata

Short direct flight, often the cheapest option.

  • Bagdogra and Guwahati

Direct seasonal flights, or drive to Phuentsholing.

  • By road

Phuentsholing, Gelephu or Samdrup Jongkhar border entry.

Best time to go
October to April for warm valleys, March to May for flowers, and festival months for tshechus.
Visa
Indian nationals do not need a visa. You travel on a permit with a valid passport or Voter ID, and a concessional daily Sustainable Development Fee applies. We arrange the permits.
